This personalized bamboo “Treats for Santa” cutting board makes a perfect lighthearted Christmas gift for the young or young at heart. I only engrave one side for use as decor or serving and the other side is left plain to be used for cutting. This cutting boards is made from eco-friendly bamboo. I include a small card that explains how fancy it is so that your gift is a stand-out above the rest. Bamboo resists retaining water and as a result, will not warp or crack as easily as other woods. A highly renewable resource, bamboo's resistance to water retention also prevents letting bacteria find a place to form.
What do I treat the wood with? As is- bamboo is left untreated. Due to nut allergies, I avoid using natural food grade finishes made from coconut or carnauba oils. To avoid use of petrochemicals, I avoid the use of mineral oils. To avoid use of animal products for the vegans, I avoid the use of beeswax. (I think that makes everyone happy!) I recommend you treat your cutting board several times a year with your choice of food-grade conditioner to maintain its oil content and prevent drying.
I will rub it with coconut oil *on request* prior to shipment. I personally usually rub mine down with a thin coating of olive or coconut oil after each cleaning. Both can be washed by using hot water and soap or a dilution of bleach and water (1 tablespoon of bleach per gallon of water).
